When weed was first legalized in New York State through the Marijuana Regulation & Taxation Act, many Brooklyn residents were eager to purchase their supplies from local dispensaries. Despite the fact that illegal and gray-market shops are still a dime a dozen in the borough, it has taken some time for licensed cannabis stores to make their debut. With that being said, the city’s eighth legally operating dispensary opened up in Bushwick this week, courtesy of Misha’s Flower Shop.
The store, located on Suydam Street in the quickly gentrified bohemian/”alternative” neighborhood of Bushwick, is staffed with dozens of highly-trained “bud-istas,” ready to help customers with anything from gummies to pre-rolls to edibles, according to a press release. The shop will also offer vaporizers and other accessories to go along with the cannabis, which is all grown and processed at nearby New York farms.
Bushwick Dispensary: Discover Quality Cannabis in Bushwick
Bushwick Dispensary is the latest addition to Brooklyn’s growing cannabis scene and follows a few months after another legal store opened in Greenpoint. Both locations are operated by the same team, including CEO Christina De Giovanni and Managing Editor Ray Roman. De Giovanni and Roman have a mission to shed light on the modern cannabis community in New York, while promoting high-quality products that are ethically made, environmentally friendly, and delicious.
In the short time since opening, the store has received a lot of positive feedback online and in person. But it wasn’t all smooth sailing: The owners initially painted over a mural of Notorious B.I.G., painted by street artist Huetek in 2020, with black anti-graffiti paint because they were concerned it violated OCM regulations that prohibit advertising for licensed marijuana retail outlets. They have now been informed by the OCM that the mural can stay, a decision they are thrilled about.
