Swing Hacks

Mark Blackburn

PGA Tour players, with their unbelievable power and precision, seem like they're playing a different game. But even if you don't have tour-level skills, you can play more like a pro with the right shortcut or hack. Here’s help from Mark Blackburn, one of the tour's most popular coaches.

Driving Distance

One of the main reasons tour players are so effective is that they create power in an effortless way. You might not be able to produce speed like a pro, but you can tweak your setup and swing to get around your shortcomings. In this video, Mark Blackburn shares his best power hacks.

18:19

Hitting a Draw

Most amateurs who try to play a draw go about it in the wrong way, rolling their wrists over through impact to flip the clubface closed. Tour pros turn the ball from right to left by rotating the shaft as they start down and swinging from the inside—there’s no last-second manipulation of the face. Here, Mark Blackburn covers the do’s and don’ts of hitting the draw.

Playing from the Rough

The best players in the world can recover from anywhere with just about any club. But for the rest of us, we have to be smarter about the shots and clubs we’re playing from trouble areas like the rough. In this video, Mark Blackburn shows you the right shots to play from different lies in the thick stuff and the mechanical keys for pulling them off.

12:20

Flighted Wedges

Great wedge players know how to manage their angle of attack on the ball and control shot trajectory, often creating a much lower flight than amateurs do. Too many average golfers try to smash down on the ball to hit it solid or try to help it into the air. Here, Mark Blackburn teaches you how to control your contact and flight your wedges perfectly.

10:47

Greenside Touch

Around the greens, one of the most useful shots is the high pitch that lands softly by the hole. Tour players have mastered this shot, but amateurs often struggle to apply enough speed and loft to produce the desired result. In this final video, Mark Blackburn shares his favorite hacks for creating loft and stopping power on greenside shots.
